St. John's Point

IMG_1464 The peninsula that culminates at the St. John's Point offers a truly remarkable setting. Walking along the narrow road from the main road leading to the top of the peninsula you can enjoy views of the sea on three sides. IMG_1483 Shortly before the end of the road is on the left a beautiful uncrowded beach. It 's the ideal place for a swim in the ocean on a hot day like this.

IMG_1498 Continue along the road towards the lighthouse that dominates the final part of the St. Johns Point studded with sharp cliffs that are lost in the sea.

IMG_1521 It 'a beautiful evening and travels to Kellybegs for dinner we enjoy a beautiful sunset over the bay.

Sun, sea and Connemara ...!

IMG_1042 Today the weather was absolutely favolso and allowed us to enjoy the beaches and the landscape of Connemara at its peak. The strong wind that kept us company all day, he flew my kite and has kept away the clouds of rain. IMG_1061

IMG_1044 We headed straight for most Manin Bay where the beaches and the sea color could be those of the Caribbean. The whole area is a sussegguirsi of white sand beaches, coral and yellow sand. IMG_1108 The water is clean and the choreography of the surrounding landscape is absolutely perfect.

IMG_1127 We move towards Roundstone pub for lunch at the legendary Shamrock: spicy chicken wrap and pint of stout. We go to famossissmo shop Malachy Kearns that the most famous craftsman in the world of Bodhrans (Irish traditional drums). The stage is always nice because the shop Malachy is placed in the context of other artisan jewelers, masters procellana, painters etc. ..

IMG_1137 Returning to Clifden we stop at the spectacular Dogs Bay, where a very wide beach shaped afiteatro melts gently into the sea. Even here the wind is landlord to some but does not prevent the Irish taking a bath in the ocean.

We return to Clifden for a well earned coffee still imprinted in my mind the vivid images of places that we visited today, trying not to think that there are only a few days to our return to Italy.

The kite

1 commento August 20, 2007 irlandiamo a comment

IMG_3284 Deserves a space all its my kite. It 'a passion that I recently was sent by a dear friend who I will never cease to give thanks. IMG_3286 The sense in having the wind in your hands is something indescribable and the first time I have talked seriously about kites I immediately thought of Ireland: huge beach and gale!

IMG_3292 I decided to buy a kite for towing (like those used for kite surfing) inizare just to get to grips with the controls. Drive it is very easy and when you're tearing away from turning the adrenaline is strong. This kite in winds up from the ground up to 100Kg, therefore we limit between mine and his strength. It 'a balancing act :)

Dingle Northwest

1 commento August 16, 2007 irlandiamo a comment

IMG_0506 We wake up in the violent downpour that seems even more strongly amplified by the glass roof of the verandah that welcomes us spelndida for breakfast. The time to finish the last sip of coffee and the sun starts to capiolno between white clouds now. We decide to explore the Dingle Peninsula in the northwest.

We take the Connor Pass road and from the pass we enjoy a magnificent view: on one side of Dingle Bay and the other that of Brandon both dominated by the mountains of the peninsula.

IMG_3197 As we head towards Brandon Bay to Brandon Point. Before reaching the vantage point we see a beach that seems made to unleash the legendary kite again. We challenge once again the strong winds that can rip back to a node of the sail.

IMG_3203 We resume the road to Brandon Point where we will have a splendid view of the ocean atalantico. We chat with a naturalist intent to handle all of the powerful telescopes. He explains he is trying to spot the whales. After a couple of minutes and here is the show for the first time in my life I see very clearly a whale! An unforgettable experience.

IMG_0565 We return to the Connor Pass and we stop for a hot soup (it takes just today .. despite the sunshine outside the thermometer marks 12 degrees) to Colaghane, a village nestled on Brandon Bay where time really seems to stand still: the smell of peat burning in fireplaces, donkeys, old men with a IMG_0581 wave of their hand and welcome you seagulls playing on the shore. After 5 days now we are really sure of being in Ireland!

Back to our b & b where we deserved a careful steaming cup of coffee and a couple of homemade cakes than you call in peace with the world. Today, Italy, but it seems very far away.

From Kinsale to Dingle

IMG_0359 After a wonderful breakfast at the Woodlands-based pancakes and maple syrup Kinsale we are going to leave a little poorer than yesterday: the B & B (quite stylish) cost us more than expected. To hell ... we are still on holiday or not!

IMG_0378 With the benefit of the sun we head to Dingle via Killarney. On the road between Cork and Killarney (more precisely, near Macroom) there is' the visitor center of Prince August. For those not familiar is a factory absolutely handicraft pieces for chess, soldiers and minature generally all made from metal. Entrarti the factory seems to be the kingdom of Santa Claus.

IMG_3161 We continue our journey in the rain that seems to be more and more insistent. After a couple of hours we reach the spectacular and endless beach of Inch (near Dingle). Time for a soup (of the day) and on the beach to feel the kite. The wind is unsustainable and more than once I have taken off from the ground for a foot.

IMG_0393 At the end of the kite is detached from the rope and a kind of hurricane has shot down on the beach.

We recover the kite and we continue towards our goal. We arrived in Dingle where finally we again expect a warm sun and a beautiful rainbow!

IMG_0443 There rinfranchiamo with a nice hot coffee on the veranda of the b & b of today enjoys a beautiful view of the bay.

IMG_0424 We opt for a city walk and hike the hills in front of Dingle from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sole company of a friendly crowd of gulls.

IMG_0484

We enjoy the sunset behind the breaking clouds and decide for dinner. We reserve the Old Smoke House.

Dingle offers numerous nightlife and virtually all the pubs (there are thirty) host sessions of traditional music of the highest quality.

Whiskey and kites

IMG_0247 The day had a little gray, and so we decided to head towards the Midleton distillery through the Fota Island and a short visit to Cobh.

The visit to the distillery is a pleasant way to soak for a few hours in the world of Irish whiskey Jameson family weblog. Impossible not to yield to the charm of the place that combines visual and olfactory impressions very insightful.

IMG_0260 Leaving Midleton (not without some difficulty ... I do not know about you but 6 samples of whiskey at noon on an empty stomach I have definitely put to the test) we return to the Old Head Kinsale pointing and the fabulous Speckled Door .

IMG_3146 After the generous lunch the sun decides to come back and immediately thinks all'acquilone. I remember a blue flag beach from nearby. Do not waste time and after about ten minutes we are to experience the excitement of a wind force 5 on the beach. What a thrill!

Unfortunately the wind was really strong and the kite has undergone a minor accident. We hope to bring it back in shape for tomorrow, we expect the spectacular beach of Inch near Dingle!
